Abstract
Conventional architectural design approach to production process was disrupted with the introduction of the digital domain, this should impact the academic settings and reconfigure the architectural educational process and rather than offering courses that discuss these topics on their own it should be integrated throughout the span of students' education.
This study was initiated to look for insights into the current educational curriculum and to provide a baseline for possible solutions to cope with the complexity of the digital domain. This paper focuses on the academic, pedagogical as well as the technical aspects that support the integration between generative design and digital fabrication in the context of architectural education. This study also illustrates the challenges of incorporating new knowledge areas into constrained curricula and the various approaches that the university programs are undertaking. The architectural course being discussed led to the realization of a full-scale pavilion through a 13 weeks semester at the American University in Cairo (AUC).
